If it’s October 1st kids are already thinking about pumpkins, trick or treats, and candy, and we have some fun Halloween fall stick puppet crafts to help them get ready for Halloween.

This Halloween popsicle stick puppets craft is fun and easy and can be made with the free template and a few supplies you have around the house.

Kids cut, color and glue (fine motor skills), and then create stories with their stick puppets.

Why not start this fall craft with a treat … pass out popsicles and save the sticks for the puppet craft.

Gather your supplies.

Directions

Different colored pumpkins and an owl ready to color and cut out

Start coloring the puppet pieces.

Glue or draw eyes on the pumpkin. This will make the puppet more life-like.

Turn the puppet over and glue the craft stick to the back of the puppet.

Repeat these steps with the owl, scarecrow and boy.

Now that the puppets are done…share. Share the puppets, tell stories, make-up plays:

  • what is his/her name
  • where does s/he live
  • how old is s/he
  • For younger students use the puppets to play games. Instead of where is thumbkin, try ‘where is pumpkin/scarecrow/owl?’.
  • Someone start a story using one of the characters. (Boy decided to go for a walk in the pumpkin patch.) The next person add a sentence to the story. (On his walk he saw a scarecrow who looked sad.) Continue with everyone in the group adding a sentence.

Grab some hot apple cider, and a cozy blanket … it’s time for Stick Puppet Theatre Hour.
